Mary Farasyn Peers (SH Menlo Atherton – ’69) has recently published her first novel. The Wisdom of Wood, Volume 1, Hazelnut, is the story of a young girl who discovers she is the key to an ancient prophecy portending the return of the wisdom contained in the Ogham Tree Alphabet.
Mary has written since childhood, and has studied various languages, linguistics and the pictorial symbolism in art, mythology and dreams. She is an award-winning author and has published articles in a variety of Pacific Northwest magazines.
Yet, her ongoing fascination and love has been the symbolism of the mythology which runs, like an undercurrent, through our lives. She wrote The Wisdom of Wood in an attempt to bring back some of the mystery of life, to create a story that would strengthen marriage and family, and to create two new mythic characters, honor bound and linked to the past, yet grounded in the 21st century.
